i think every single person in the world should experience being a server perhaps for a month in their life. i think then, and only then, will they realise and appreciate what they do
sometimes, i just dont understand how some customers are so rude and so horrible.
there is nothing better , when i serve, then a nice polite customer. it can even make my whole day when i know someone appreciated my service.
here are a few things i've thought of that you might like to remember next time you go out to eat!
-server comes to take your order. if you are not ready to order just yet, let them know. dont hum and haw while the server is standing there waiting. He/she could be doing something else while you make up your mind on what you're going to order.
-sit at the place you are assigned. resaturants HAVE a seating order due to each server getting an even amount of tables so another server doesnt get slammed (and then you wonder why they havent checked on you in a while....); or needing the bigger table for a party of 6 instead of your party of two. etc etc
-when the server is clearly in the middle of helping one customer, WAIT until they are done with them before you call them over for whatever it is that you need/that is wrong.
first of all, its impolite, second of all the server is probably carrying a very heavy tray in his/her hands and he/she might drop it while you're telling him/her that your food is undercooked and/or cold, it took too long to get out to you, and did u mention that you need a refill on your drink? oh and also that you need a doggy bag for your leftovers that you will give to your 5 german shephards at home
(exhale)
-if you're going to complain about something dont do it unless there is something you want your server to do about it, or can do about it.
example: (customer) i didnt like my food (server) ok would u like something else , can i get the manager, is there anything i can do? (customer) no, just letting you know. (server) ok?? sorry??
-when the server asks if theres anything you need, is everything ok, dont ignore them
-when the server is attending to you, LOOK ALIVE. It also helps when you remember what you ordered so when they're holding a big tray and the server says "new york cut?" they dont have to wait 5 minutes before they can put it down on the table cuz you couldnt remember if you got that or a ribeye
-say please and thank you
-TIP
-realise someone is gonna have to clean up after you
-dont lie and say you ordered something else when you and your server both know you didnt.
-if you have children, control them. otherwise they will get in the way. Its annoying, and also potentially very dangerous.
-if something is wrong with your food, let your server know right away. Do not wait half an hour and then complain, and do not eat it all and say you want a refund or another one. If it was as horrible as you claim it doesnt make much sense that you would eat it all.
-if everytime you come to the same restaurant you experience the same bad thing (i.e. your steak wasnt cooked how you ordered it, service was bad etc), don't keep coming in. go somwhere else or cook at home for yourself exactly how you like it.
-stop complaining , WE REALLY DONT CARE ABOUT YOU
-(i dont know if this happens in every restaurant but it sure happens to me in mine alot)
if your server asks if you need a refill on your drink DO NOT finish what is left in your glass before you answer them. (AGAIN server is standing there waiting while he/she could be doing more important things)
-try to be patient, the server will be with you as soon as they possibly can.
-if you havent been checked on as much as you liked, look at your surroundings before you decide whether to tip or not. If the server is obviously very busy it wasnt their fault they couldnt wait on you hand and foot. You're not the only one in the restuarant, remember.
and....i think thats about all i can think of for now...there might be a part two....if i feel the need to mention anything else.
if anyone thats reading this wants to ignore it, disagree, or think that you can do whatever you want because after all thats what the server is getting paid for and the customer is always right,
all i have to say is....just remember, we ARE handling your food and you DONT want to f*** with someone that is handling your food.
bwahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah!
